22 April marks Earth Day 2026, and this year’s theme,“Our Power, Our Planet”, speaks to a truth beyond politics. Protecting the environment has never depended on one government, election, or institution - it lives in the daily actions of communities, educators, workers, innovators, and families who know that safeguarding their homes and workplaces is essential for the future.
At EURid, the registry manager of the .eu top-level domain, sustainability is not just a once-a-year focus - it is an integral part of how we operate. We are proud to have been EMAS-certified (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) since 2012, a commitment that reflects our long-standing dedication to environmental responsibility and transparent reporting.
As part of our commitment to demonstrating that sustainability is achievable - even in the digital space - we continuously take steps to reduce our environmental footprint. We apply environmentally friendly criteria when purchasing goods and services, encourage staff to actively participate in our sustainability programme, and share best practices with industry peers and stakeholders to strengthen engagement in environmental initiatives and projects. In addition, we regularly collaborate with our headquarters’ building management to further reduce our environmental impact.
Since 2014, we have also compensated for our CO₂ emissions by calculating our remaining emissions and offsetting them through investments in high quality emission reduction projects. Last year, we supported reforestation and agricultural plantation projects in Belgium in partnership with PlantC.
For Earth Day 2026, we encourage our stakeholders and community to get involved:
