Similar domain names

When doing a WHOIS search for a .eu domain name, you have access to a list of registered domain names that are similar to that domain name (as well as similar domain names on other TLDs), ranked in order of resemblance. If you are the holder of the domain name you have searched for, you can request that the full list of similar registered domain names be sent to your email address. To avoid abuse, this list can only be sent once a week.

Knowing which similar domain names are already registered helps you avoid legal issues, differentiate your brand, and enhance customer trust. It also assists your strategy on improving your search engine ranking and market positioning.

European trademark availability

The WHOIS search results for your domain name will indicate whether a European trademark with the same name is already registered. If the trademark is available, you can click through to the webpage of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for trademark registrations. If the trademark is already registered, you will find a link providing information about the holder and the registration timeline.

Notifications to European trademark holders

When a .eu domain name is registered that matches an existing trademark registration or application, EUIPO is notified and sends an alert to the holder/applicant, provided they have activated this feature in their EUIPO account.
