EC reports on .eu implementation, functioning and effectiveness
Brussels, 25 October 2011 – EURid, the .eu registry, announces that the European Commission has published its biennial report to the European Parliament and the Council on the implementation, functioning and effectiveness of the .eu top-level domain.
The report covers .eu operations over the past two years and includes:
- Implementation of .eu Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) using special Latin characters and non-Latin scripts, such as Cyrillic and Greek, and the promotion of multilingualism online
- .eu domain name usage, of which 36.3% are used for business-related purposes
- Registrar relations
- Financial situation
- Business continuity planning
- Online security efforts including the implementation of Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC), the Internet security protocol which verifies the authenticity of name server responses, and anti-phishing efforts
- Legal proceedings.
