Brussels, 8 February 2007—Earlier this week .eu passed the 2.5 million mark with the registration of the domain name “organic-spintronics.eu” by the Italian company Organic Spintronics Srl via the Italian registrar Tuonome.it.
"We chose to register a .eu domain name because we do business across Europe and beyond and need more than just national presence on the Internet," says Carlo Taliani, president & CEO of Organic Spintronics Srl.
The .eu continues to grow and is now well established as Europe’s third largest top-level domain only surpassed by the German .de and the British .uk. The average monthly growth rate between May and December last year was 4.7 percent, which is among highest in the industry. Also the actual everyday use of .eu is increasing. The number of DNS queries to the registry has increased fivefold in half a year between the end of June and end of December last year. (The number of DNS queries indicates how often someone, for example, looks up a .eu website or sends an email to a .eu email address.)
