EURid has recently received several complaints about various forms of queues that are being offered by registrars.
We are currently looking into these cases and examining whether these models comply with the EC regulations.
If, from a legal point of view, a model is not allowed, we will take all necessary measures. At the same time we would like to remind you that we have no legal power at all to act against the non-accredited registrars.
Even if a model is legal, registrants should be aware of the fact that each registrar can only have one list. Currently over 500 registrars have already been accredited by EURid - each of them having his own list of domain names which he will try to introduce into our system as soon as possible on 7th December 2005.
Please be aware that being the first in the queue of a certain registrar doesn’t mean that you will automatically be the first one to apply for a certain domain name once EURid opens registration.
Important to know
Even though EURid has a strict “one company, one agreement” policy (which only allows one registrar agreement per legal entity), separate legal persons that form part of the same group can still become accredited registrars.
Accredited registrars are free to limit the number of requests they will accept and set up their own pricing policy. However, we would like to warn all the interested parties against paying excessive prices.
Any sort of selling places in the queue by auction is also not allowed, since the “first come, first served” principle has to be respected by all accredited registrars.
