Brussels, 21 June 2010 – ICANN Meeting No 38 began today with the President of the European Council, CEO of ICANN and other European dignitaries speaking at the Opening Ceremony.

In his speech as conference host, Marc Van Wesemael, EURid’s General Manager, revealed that .eu now is enabled for DNSSEC and signing the .eu domain name zone is completed. He wished all participants well, noting that the Brussels meeting is one of the most well attended ICANN meetings in the history of the organisation, if not the most attended yet.
Herman Von Rompuy, President of the European Council, spoke on the European Union and the management of the Internet, observing that “it is the shared responsibility of all the stakeholders to ensure that the overall framework of Internet governance will continue to evolve in line with the agreed principles.”
